First and foremost, relax! Feeling anxious or nervous is common in often the first thing someone says when we meet. We are going to work together to create your dream brows. Below are common questions I receive when someone is scheduling their first appointment with me. Once you have reviewed, then read my policies. By booking you confirm you have read and agree to all terms listed within the policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are Powder Brows?

Powder brows is a cosmetic tattoo for clients who wanting a soft, natural, filled in brow that creates a powdery makeup effect- similar to a brow powder. The healed result will be waterproof, smudge-proof, and natural looking. During this type of procedure, thousands of tiny little dots/pixels of pigment are inserted into the skin, gradually building up a color and a defined shape. This is a very precise method. This type of brow is done using a digital cosmetic tattoo machine with a fine needle. The color saturation and opaqueness can be manipulated, so you can choose how solid you want your brow enhancement to turn out.

  • Is this REALLY permanent?

Permanent makeup has come a very long way in the last decade. The pigments, machines, and needles used are specific to permanent makeup (and not the same as traditional body tattooing techniques). They result in what is usually considered semi-permanent, which means it should lighten, fade, and possibly ash over time. For most brow procedures, optimal results will last anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on lifestyle, sun exposure, skin type, and colors used. After the 1-3 year mark, it is best to come in for a touch up/color boost, where the main objective is to restore exceptional color and definition.

  • Does my existing eyebrows need to be shaved off for powder brow?

Most definitely NOT! Your initial procedure includes a brief consultation, followed by facial measurements, and a custom brow design outline for you to preview and approve. Any hair growth that falls outside of the design will be be removed. Your regular brow maintenance of tweezing, threading, waxing may continue once the brows have healed.

  • Do you take a client with existing cosmetic, tattooing, or micro blading from another artist?

Cover up, corrective work can be tricky and needs to be dealt with case by case. If you’ve had previous work by another artist, it is important to send clear photos of your brows PRIOR TO BOOKING to make sure I am comfortable covering the old work. When submitting photos of your previous work & to be considered, please email several good photos and good lighting. I recommend one full face photo and one close-up of each brow. Make sure you have no make up, no filters, and take them in good natural lighting , standing in front of a window is best. I only feel comfortable going over another artist work if it’s at least 85% faded. When I commit to being your artist, I want to give you my best. Having your brows done previously by someone else limits what I can do to them. If they are too dark, having me work on them, only makes them darker, or they may not hold new pigment at all. If they are too thick, they will need removal. I cannot go thinner. If they’re unevenly shaped, I typically can’t do much. Making sure your brows are almost completely faded, gives me as an artist, freedom to do my best work, as I want you walking around with great brows. I want to give my clients, the very best and if I don’t think we can achieve what you’re wanting with your existing work, I will often recommend removal/ lightening services before proceeding.

Please note: if you book an appointment for powder brows or touchup, and you do not send photos/and select that you would have had previous work done, you will be turned away at the time of your appointment, and your deposit will be forfeited. The reason coverups or corrective work require prior approval is because it is incredibly difficult to do! It can be hard to guess what pigments and techniques your prior artist have used. I will always be honest about what’s best for the integrity of your brows and skin.

  • Does it hurt?

The discomfort is relative as everyone has a different level of sensitivity. A safe topical anesthetic gel will be applied to ease any discomfort. Every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the duration of the procedure. My clients are usually pleased to discover that it is no more painful than tweezing or threading! However, with any tattoo mild discomfort and slight swelling should be anticipated.

  • How long it the healing process?

It is normal to experience minimal swelling and tenderness immediately following your procedure. This usually subsides within a couple days. The first few days following your procedure, the pigment will appear much darker and/or reddish-orange than how it will appear once it has healed. Sometime within the first week post-procedure, your skin naturally exfoliates and regenerates. During this time, the pigment may sometimes appear patchy, and/or difficult to see. Around week 4-6, when the skin completes healing, you will see the pigment become more visible.

  • How old do I have to be to get my powder brows?

You must be 18 years or older with a valid ID. No exceptions.

  • Can I get powder brows if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

As a precaution, The Brow Bar PDX does NOT perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.

  • How long will my powder brows last?

Powder Brows are a tattoo procedure. However, like all tattoos over time, your ink/pigment will significantly fade.I recommend scheduling an appointment every 1-2 years for a touch-up Session.

Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including: skin type and tone, lifestyle (sun exposure, smoking, etc), your overall health, as well as use of acidic and/or brightening skincare products and skincare services.

Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. I will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your touch-up appointment and make any changes necessary.

  • What factors will affect my powder brows?

Alcohol, certain medications and vitamins, or any other blood-thinners should be avoided prior to your appointment.

Sun exposure: The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, and may also change the color appearance of the pigment. A physical sunscreen should be used once your brows fully heal to prolong your enhancement. Whenever possible, I encourage our clients to wear hats to protect their beautiful brows (and skin too)!

Lifestyle: smokers, "sun bathers", or anyone with skin that is in a state of distress (rosacea, acne, etc) may have less desirable results.

  • How will I look immediately after my powder brow appointment?

Your brows will appear darker, bolder, and more intense than expected for the first few days or so. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Slight redness and swelling is expected.

  • Do I have to schedule an in person consultation prior to my procedure?

No, if you have determined you are a good candidate for permanent makeup and are ready to make an appointment, you’re ready to book. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. I’m happy to answer any of your questions.

  • What will my powder brows look like in the future?

During your appointment, I will analyze your skin tone and skin Fitzpatrick to anticipate how ink/pigment colors will heal. I will also custom blend a color formula and do my best to ensure your healed result appears as natural as possible with your hair and skin color.

Unfortunately, tattooing is not a science, so there is no way to determine the specific healed outcome of a color or how the color may fade and appear over time. Although rare, there may be cases where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Multiple factors affect these changes. If needed, special formula alterations to correct the color may be made at a future touch up appointment To keep your brows looking their best, a refresher/touch up appointment is suggested 1-3 years. Results and preferences vary with each client.

  • What should I know about long term care for powder brows?

The ink/pigment color will change and fade over time. I recommend an annual touch up/refresher to keep your brows looking their best. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and if any any aggressive skincare products or services were completed after your procedure.

*When using acidic or brightening skincare products or services (chemical peels, Retin-A, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, etc) please fully cover your brow tattoo with Vaseline, prior to product application on your skin.

  • How often do I need a touchup?

After your initial appointment and 1st touch-up appointment are completed, most clients are able to go 1-3 years between touch ups! Remember, cosmetic tattoos are LOW maintenance, not NO maintenance. Using a little brow pencil is normal.

  • How safe is the treatment?

Health & safety is my priority. All tattoo artists should be up to date on their certifications in blood borne pathogens, CPR, & First aid. All equipment is sanitized, one use-disposable products and are disposed of in a sanitary manner. I ensure that your procedure will be completed in a clean, safe room, free from other contaminants.

  • Do you offer microblading?

No. Microblading has seen mainstream appeal due to its promise of realistic “hair strokes.” Though they indeed look real when first applied, with time and healing the strokes fade, spread, and often look blotchy, loosing their realistic effect. The powder brow technique delivers consistent color and shape, and when healed, provides a soft makeup look that doesn’t wash off.

  • If I had my brows done by another artist, can you still touch them up?

I require a consultation to discuss options for covering up/touching up work that’s been done by another artist.

*If you have previous work from another artist it is not considered a touch up since you are a new client to The Brow Bar and can only be New Client Powder Brows pricing.

*The tattoo must be VERY faded in order to work over, reshape, or color correct.

Working over another artist work is often times more difficult than working on a blank canvas, and for that reason.

  • What should I do before & after my powder brow appointment?

Please review my detailed pre and post care instructions. You MUST strictly follow these instructions to ensure a comfortable, safe healing process and also to achieve the best possible results! I have the right to refuse service for any clients who do not follow Pre & Post Care Instructions.

  • Can you guarantee your work?

Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as everyone retains and breaks down pigment differently. A touch up appointment is necessary 6 weeks-6 months so we can asses your pigment retention and make any changes necessary.

  • What type of payments to you accept?

CREDIT CARD (VISA/Mastercard/Discover) payments, cash (preferred), and Venmo.

*Please note: a 3% transaction fee will be charged for ALL cards & Venmo payments.

    * I do not accept personal checks.
